Winn Dixie Stores Support Local Nonprofit with $52,000
Employee-Led Grant
Raleigh - Loaves and Fishes, Inc. (LAF), a nonprofit
organization providing long-term, holistic support to Raleigh's high-risk
children through after-school and family support programs, was chosen by
Winn Dixie corporation to participate in its local workplace giving program
and has received $52,400 in pledges to date for 2003 -- $26,200 from
employee pledges, $26,200 from the corporation in a dollar-for-dollar match.
This year, the corporate office for the grocery store chain in Jacksonville,
Florida, decided to add local nonprofit organizations to its list of giving
options for employees. The regional division office chose LAF to represent
Raleigh. LAF is one of three organizations presented to employees for the
program.
"I am excited that Winn Dixie has affirmed our unique intervention programs
for high-risk children and youth," said Betty Anne Ford, co-founder and
executive director. "Our provision of long-term individualized and holistic
support is a winner, and I believe that our winning partnership with Winn
Dixie Stores will significantly stretch the children's chances for success
in school and in society."
Jon Trombley, director of training for Winn Dixie, led the corporate giving
campaign in conjunction with George Gue, division president.
"We look around the Raleigh area, and Loaves and Fishes easily stood out as
a viable option for our employees, based on the personal interests they have
shared with us," said Trombley. "We knew Loaves and Fishes would be a good
fit for our company. Many of our employees have taken a strong interest in
the organization. We are pleased with our partnership - especially that we
can help make a real difference in the lives of the children in the LAF
program."
The Winn Dixie company filmed a video at Loaves and Fishes free of charge,
which they will continue to present to employees to help them understand the
mission and purpose of the organization.
