Loaves and Fishes Meets Stewards Fund Challenge

RALEIGH, NC - Loaves and Fishes, Inc. (LAF), a nonprofit organization providing long-term, holistic support to Raleigh's high-risk children through after-school and family support programs, has met its $30,000 challenge from the Stewards Fund, a local foundation.

LAF selected a four-month time frame to raise the funds from new sources, including the faith community, local businesses, individuals, foundations, civic groups and events. The four-month challenge was also the first quarter of the Pennies for Children drive, in which youth receiving LAF services are helping to collect pennies to support LAF programs. The youth collected more than 75,000 pennies during the challenge, and will continue to collect more in the future in order to
reach their goal of 1 million pennies.

"I am thrilled to have reached the challenge again this year, especially in this economic climate," said Betty Anne Ford, co-founder and executive director. "The Stewards Fund strongly believes in the ability
of our board of directors to increase its capacity for raising funds. The incentive provided by the challenge has helped the board to become more involved and to learn how capable it truly is."

Funds will be used for the ongoing support of LAF's after-school and family enrichment programs.
