Study Buddies (Grades 3-5)

Loaves and Fishes offers an after school program providing activities and daily support for improving academic and special interest skills for third, fourth and fifth grade students.  In addition to the regular Monday through Thursday afternoon schedule, Study Buddies are eligible to participate in the one-to-one match program for outside activities with an adult friend and mentor.

Year in Review:

Annie Bush directs the academic program for Study Buddies as well as Eager Beavers. Annie says, “Working with Study Buddies (3-5) is wonderful! Each of these students continues to show themselves strong on a daily basis. They have worked hard this year and have truly tried their best to continue to do the right thing. I have seen a new burst of confidence, which is shown in their abilities to complete work that is given to them. They too have done an excellent job with completing tutorial and reading group assignments. They have worked on various projects this year; one that stands out is their Black History assignment. Each student was asked to named a person from Black History that they admired. Of course they all name the same two people: Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. This led to a discussion about all the many ways that African Americans have contributed to this country. They each were assigned different people to complete research on. In the end they were all impressed with the person they were given. We all expect great things from these young people in the years to come and we look forward to being part of their futures!
